Ready Lamp is a company created by a faith-based family with big ideas.
The name, Ready Lamp, was born out of Matthew 25:1-13 in the Bible, which speaks of ten women. Five of the women were considered wise because they were ready with plenty of oil in their lamps, to meet the bridegroom, Jesus. The other five women missed out on His arrival, however, as they sought to purchase more oil. This parable represents the world and how God's children must be prepared for His return.
We believe that we are in fact, living in the last days, and that it is only a matter of time before He returns to collect His bride, the church. We want to be ready!
Using this concept, the name Ready Lamp, took less than five minutes to brainstorm by a teenager, and was unanimously agreed upon as the perfect name. Symbolically, Ready Lamp, as a company, is intended to serve as the earthly oil in our earthly lamps, yet also serve as a constant reminder to focus on our spiritual oil.
Ready your lamps! He is coming!
Our story begins very simply with a mom, who stumbled upon a large quantity of Nerf guns at a yard sale. She considered which one to buy, but the options were overwhelming. She couldn't decide and thought her young son would love to have such a collection, so she bought the entire lot. He did seem to enjoy it but played mostly alone as the rest of the family
had little interest.
Years later, this mom and her family moved to a new home. Not long after they settled in, and to their surprise, a stranger insisted on entering their home one evening, without being invited. The mom, and her youngest daughter, were the only ones home.
The individual relentlessly and aggressively agitated the door handle while yelling to open the door. Thrusting himself at the door and banging on it, the mom and her daughter grabbed the phone and quickly ran to another room to put distance between themselves and the brutish individual. They later learned that someone had confused their new home for another that was hosting a party. The mom took a mental note of what could have been a very bad situation and all the weaknesses that contributed to their vulnerability.
Then Covid happened and she perceived a substantial downfall in society. Production halted, currency was no longer accepted, and delivery systems were interrupted. She saw a need to provide for, and protect her family. The more Covid's effects lingered, the more she pondered these needs.
Wanting to be a good mom, she scoured the internet looking for ideas of things to do with her kids. "Bucket Lists" were abound for every season of the year. She convinced herself to do most of the activities with her kids whether she truly wanted to or not. Nerf gun battles were one of those things on the lists, and she felt her selfish desires for her time and energy had to take a back seat.
She became acquainted with people like John Lovell of Warrior Poet Society. John had spoken about familiarizing yourself with your home and finding it's weak points that make home invasion more enticing. He also went over line-of-sight around stairways and other areas of potential threat, should home invasion actually occur. With the aformentioned experiences, this mom wanted this perspective for her own home, and not just for herself, but for the
entire family.
Bored with playing regular "Nerf gun battles," this mom was desperate for a compromise that would satisfy both her and her kids. She wondered if she could break out of the boredom by using the playtime to her advantage; she reasoned that maybe it offered even just a glimmer of the aformentioned level of home awareness. She was willing to try, but the unstructured game proved all but impossible to focus on such matters, and boredom set in again. The thrill of purposelessly targeting one another was short-lived for everyone.
In attempt to maintain a good bond with her son, while remedying her boredom, the mom sought out a bigger and faster, more intimidating Nerf gun - that being a belt-fed Gatling gun.
Her son proved not to be easily outdone, however. He modified his Nerf shotgun by replacing the springs with stronger ones and then cut his darts in half to double his spread for each shot. There was no question if you got hit... you definitely felt it and it left red bumps, yet nothing seemed to remedy the boredom she had. She craved more purpose. Challenge. Structure. Something to focus on.
After several days of spending several hours building a spreadsheet on her iPad that generated random scenarios, the first version of what would become known as Civil Dispute, was born.
The mom explained it to the family and the looks on their faces were difficult to make out. It was without a doubt that it was a look of shock, but she couldn't tell if they thought she had lost her mind and they would suffer their own boredom to endure, or if she had impressed them.
They began to play and the game immediately seemed to take on a new personality. It had the same fun as before, but better. A revival of sorts! Her son geared up for more serious play as did the rest of the family! She was no longer bored and they played round after round after round for several hours. Not only that, but she immediately began learning a lot about her home, and further obtained an awareness of her own knee-jerk responses just by playing with her kids.
Approximately four years after creating the spreadsheet version, the matter of society still lingered in her mind, however. Provision was still important to her and though her family was well provided for, she didn't want "all her eggs in one basket." Covid had proven to be a significant threat for many people in that way, as many were forced to close their businesses and stay at home.
She pondered the many income generating ideas she had in the past, but even amidst her husband's encouragement, she had never fully brought any of them to fruition. She felt the game could be beneficial in the area of creating this concept of multiple forms of income streams and easiest for her to get started, not to mention, beneficial to others as it was to her.
Her spreadsheet was so vast, it had the capacity to equate at least four games. Anywhere from indoor snowball fights to tactical and professional outdoor training simulations. Air soft, paintballs, you name it! What would become Civil Dispute was only a very small portion of her spreadsheet.
She knew the startup costs would be significant and a timely return on the investment was necessary. As such, she needed to produce a product that could be used by the vast majority. She also knew it needed to be user friendly for most and unrestricted in large part by season or circumstance. So she settled on the concept now set before you.
Though a family of five, her two older children had already moved out of the home years before. So she pitched the idea to her husband, and youngest daughter, still living at home. They both agreed to help and the idea exploded.
The first prototype was made using printer printouts, department store clothing gift boxes, cut index cards, and pages upon endless pages of instructions.
Using the first two prototypes, several test play trials were conducted. An overwhelming majority couldn't play just one round. Kids begged to play longer. Even still, the game was refined to be more user friendly.
As previously mentioned, this mom has had a history of generating ideas to take public and her invention of Civil Dispute is only a small sample of what her spreadsheet holds for the future. As a result, the company, Ready Lamp LLC. was born and a website and Facebook page were created.
In the present, the mom took on the role of creator and idea generator, project manager, proofreader, bookkeeper, sales manager, and general management.
The daughter, took on the role of producer, graphic designer, web designer, marketing, custom material supply manager, and primary spokesperson.
The husband/father took on all the clerical duties of Articles of Organization, copyright and intellectual property protection, wholesale coordinator, orchestrating and booking shows, lodging and travel needs for shows, as well as heavy lifting for all the shows, and last but not least, the majority of the funding.
The first 600 games were all personally packaged by the three of them and they each took on the roles of factory workers and salesmen.
A copyright was sought and obtained June 2024 and the process of pursuing a patent and trademark was started.
Ready Lamp LLC. officially debuted the Civil Dispute game June 29th, 2024 and sold its first copy.
On July 19th, two local stores enthusiastically agreed to retail
Civil Dispute.
